Lymphocyte Subsets Testing for Kidney Disease

Today I would like to introduce a less concerned but very important test item -- lymphocyte subsets.

After the blood is drawn, the blood sample is examined by flow cytometry (BDFACSCanto flow cytometry in our hospital is shown in the figure below).

Then, the results of the following indicators can be obtained:

CD3

CD3 / CD4

CD3 / CD8

CD4 / CD8

CD3 / CD19

and so on.

Why should kidney patients test lymphocyte subsets?

Because without checking it, a lot of kidney diseases can not be treated.

Modern studies have confirmed that almost all glomerular diseases involve immunological mechanisms, and lymphocyte subsets are important members of the immune system, or even core members, which can determine the immune function of the body.

Therefore, many kidney disease treatments are inseparable from it, such as immune status assessment, autoimmune nephropathy, timing of immunosuppressive therapy and drug dose adjustment.

Lymphocyte subsets can also reflect immunity.

The body's immune cells include T cells and B cells. T-cell is responsible for cellular immunity.

CD4 is a marker on the surface of helper T cells. CD8 is a marker of inhibitory T cells. Increased CD4/CD8 indicates that the helper T cells are higher than the inhibitory T cells, indicating good immunity.

CD3 is all of the total T cells, and a high CD3 means a high total T cell. CD4/CD8 and CD3 are both high, which is due to the increase of auxiliary CD4 cells, so the total T cells are also increased, which is a good manifestation of the body's immunity.

In conclusion, the number and function of lymphocyte subsets is an important indicator of immune function. When you always catch a cold, have a relapse of kidney disease, and suspect immunity is low, you should consider examining lymphocyte subgroup.

Lymphocyte subsets may also aid in the diagnosis of certain diseases.

For example, autoimmune diseases, immunodeficiency diseases, malignant tumors, blood diseases, allergic diseases, etc. It is of great significance for the analysis of the pathogenesis, observation of curative effect and detection of prognosis.

All in all, lymphocyte subsets can help kidney patients to conduct more accurate treatment and avoid misdiagnosis and mistreatment.
